Victorian Miraculous Mary Statement Necklace

Created from a remarkable 1896 French Victorian Miraculous Mary medal, this substantial statement necklace captures the beauty and intricate detail of a devotional piece more than a century old.

I reproduced the antique medal by hand in bronze clay, preserving its ornate Victorian shape, beautifully sculpted scrollwork, and raised image of the Blessed Mother. After kiln firing, the medal is hand finished with my signature soft matte gold surface and polished high-relief details, allowing the intricate design to catch the light beautifully.

The pendant hangs from an Art Nouveau-inspired link bale, attached with two etched rings that complement the detailing of the original medal. I paired it with a substantial chain featuring alternating textured and ridged links. The combination gives the necklace the presence and richness of an heirloom piece of fine antique jewelry.

This is a large statement necklace designed to be noticed. Despite its bold scale, it wears beautifully and can transform something as simple as a white blouse, linen shirt, or black dress into a striking expression of faith and personal style.

THE CROWN OF GRACE PROCESS
Each antique medal in my Crown of Grace collection is carefully selected for its age, artistry, subject matter, shape, and rarity. Many of the originals I work with are more than a century old.

I create a two-part silicone mold directly from the cherished antique original, then hand press small-batch bronze clay into the mold to capture its beautiful timeworn details. After drying, each piece is kiln fired at 1,420°F using a double-carbon firing process, transforming the clay into solid bronze.

Every medal is then individually hand finished. I wire brush the bronze to create a luminous matte-gold base and selectively polish the raised areas so the original relief catches the light. The result is my signature Baroque-inspired light gold finish—soft and aged rather than overly shiny, with subtle variations that make each piece unique.

Small irregularities are part of the beauty of this process and reflect both the age of the antique original and the handmade nature of each reproduction.

I personally select each chain to complement the character and proportions of the antique medal. The chain features a durable, tarnish-resistant matte gold finish and is nickel, cadmium, and lead free.
