French Eucharistic Crusade Cross Statement Necklace

A rare piece of French Catholic devotional history, recreated by hand.

This French Eucharistic Crusade Cross Necklace is created from a remarkable antique French devotional cross depicting two adoring angels surrounding the Holy Eucharist beneath the radiant presence of God. Rich in Catholic symbolism and beautifully detailed, the substantial cross makes a striking statement while preserving the character and devotion of the original antique.

I discovered the original cross through an antique auction and immediately knew it belonged in my collection of historic French devotional medals. I carefully created a mold from the antique and now reproduce each cross individually in solid bronze clay in my Louisiana studio.

The cross hangs from a substantial 3mm matte gold wheat chain with the weight and presence of heirloom jewelry. An etched Art Nouveau-inspired bail complements the antique French styling without competing with the beautiful detail of the cross.

This is a substantial Catholic statement necklace designed to have presence when worn.

MY SIGNATURE FINISH

After firing, each bronze cross is individually hand finished using my signature Crown of Grace technique.

I begin by wire brushing the bronze to create a softly luminous matte gold base, then carefully polish only the raised areas of the design. The contrast between the matte recesses and polished high points brings the antique relief to life while retaining the wonderfully aged character of the original medal.

Rather than removing every irregularity, I intentionally preserve the tiny details and imperfections inherited from the antique. These are part of its history—and part of what makes each finished piece so special.

THE CROWN OF GRACE PROCESS

One of my greatest joys is the search.

Whether I’m bidding in an antique auction, wandering through an estate sale, or being entrusted with a treasured family heirloom, I am always searching for historic devotional medals and crosses that deserve to be admired once again.

Each antique in my Crown of Grace collection is chosen for its age, artistry, subject matter, rarity and the story it has to tell. Many of the original medals I work from are well over a century old.

Once I discover a piece, I carefully create a two-part silicone mold from the antique original. Small-batch bronze clay is then pressed into the mold by hand, dried and kiln fired at 1,420°F using a double-carbon firing process.

Every piece is then individually brushed, polished and finished by hand in my studio in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

I believe the subtle imperfections created by both age and the human hand are part of what makes these pieces beautiful. No two replicas will ever be completely identical.
