necklace, Catholic saint medal jewelry, antique French devotional necklace, Little Flower medal, and handmade bronze religious jewelry come together in this substantial statement piece inspired by one of the Catholic Church’s most beloved saints.
St. Thérèse of Lisieux, affectionately known as “The Little Flower,” is beautifully depicted holding a crucifix surrounded by roses—a symbol forever associated with her promise to “let fall a shower of roses” and her simple but profound Little Way of loving God through the ordinary moments of everyday life.
This medal was recreated from an antique devotional medal in my collection. I make each reproduction individually in my studio using a handcrafted mold taken directly from the antique original. The design is hand pressed into bronze clay and kiln fired at approximately 1,420°F using a double-carbon firing process, transforming the clay into solid bronze.
After firing, each medal is individually finished by hand using my signature Baroque light gold finish. I preserve the darker, softly aged character within the recessed areas while carefully polishing the raised details to bring St. Thérèse, her roses, crucifix and the original antique lettering into beautiful relief.
I especially love the imperfections and age found in these old devotional pieces. I do not attempt to erase them. Those tiny irregularities are part of the history of the original medal and are intentionally preserved in each reproduction.
For this design, I paired the substantial St. Thérèse medal with a richly textured matte-gold chain and front toggle closure, allowing the clasp itself to become part of the design. An etched, antique-inspired bail connects the medal to the toggle and gives the necklace the feeling of an old European devotional piece rediscovered and worn again.
The second photograph includes a U.S. quarter for scale so you can see the substantial size and presence of the medal.
St. Thérèse is a particularly meaningful saint for those seeking to live their faith through simplicity, humility, trust and small acts of love. This necklace makes a beautiful Catholic gift for a confirmation, birthday, feast day, conversion, spiritual milestone—or simply as a personal reminder to find holiness in the little things.
Each Crown of Grace Designs piece is individually made and finished by hand in my Louisiana studio. Slight variations in patina, polishing and surface character are expected and are part of what makes every necklace unique.
